SGI® InfiniteStorage 5000 (IS5000) is the newest addition to a complete selection of SGI storage hardware and software solutions, and the first to employ 6 Gb/s SAS technology. The system provides customers with improved performance and scalability, multi-protocol host connectivity, flexible drive support, and advanced energy saving and data security features.
Delivering a balanced mix of IOPS and throughput, IS5000 provides sustainable performance that is a considerable improvement over previous generation technology. With up to 4,000 MB/s and 40,000 IOPS available though an optional High Performance Feature Key, the IS5000 is equally adept at delivering throughput to bandwidth-intensive and IOPS demanding applications.
Futuristic Power Efficiency and Cooling Innovation
SGI has always emphasized efficiency in power and cooling as a key component in storage solutions and IS5000 is no exception. With power supplies designed to meet multiple efficiency standards, a choice of 3.5 or 2.5 inch drives and SSDs, customers can expect lower overall energy expenditures with IS5000. And like all SGI InfiniteStorage storage systems, IS5000's exceptional per-drive performance and IOPS per watt provide value by leveraging the fewest drives for optimum performance using the least amount of power. IS5000, with SGI DMF software, is an ideal primary or secondary tier storage solution for tiered virtualization implementations. It is also ideal as a front-end for active archive architectures using an SGI® COPAN™ MAID solution on the back-end.

With two native 6 Gb/s SAS host interfaces, IS5000 can support an additional host interface card (HIC) with two additional 6 Gb/s SAS or four 8 Gb/s FC host ports. This flexible and multi-protocol approach allows organizations to choose the right configuration for their DAS or SAN deployments. IS5000 cost-effectively satisfies an organization's complete range of data capacity requirements with high performance and near-line 6 Gb/s 3.5 and 2.5 inch SAS drives and 3.5 inch SSDs-all within a single storage system.
Simplified Storage Management
IS5000 storage management software combines the ease of use found on the previous generation InfiniteStorage S220 products with the power and features of the InfiniteStorage 4000 series. Now all IS220, IS4000 and IS5000 series products can be managed from a common user interface; on-the-fly scaling, reconfigurations and firmware updates are supported.
